Term 3 Reflection:Lesson 1/2

It is Term 3 and I am continuing working with my little sculpture! On my first lesson back this term, I started to work on more specific details of my body shape (playing the piano), such as the muscles and limbs. When I compared my photo with my sculpture, I noticed that: my legs and arms were too thin, my hands and foot need to have a more specific shape and my position was completely accurate. In addition, I realised how much difference it made when I had a clearer photo of myself playing the piano because then, I can really see the body parts where I need to build up with muscle and limbs (and fat!).

This lesson, while I was working with my lower part of the body, I found it difficult to add papier mache to my feet. I was trying to add a little bit more to my heels but the little bunch of newspaper kept falling off and looked unstable. I thought wrapping another layer around the heels would stick it on but then, my feet became much too big.

Today in class I continued from where I left off on my portrait. I have already drawn up my border by white chalk on my black background. Once I got my photo and turned it upside down to draw the negative shapes, I started from the foot and continued up to my head. I noticed that using white charcoal was much harder to draw with because it doesn't show as clearly as white chalk does so I swapped it around during mid way. Drawing the love heart I made was the hardest because the chalk was really thick and my fingers were really thin so it was pretty hard to determine the shape of my heart pose. When we had to stop drawing since class was nearly over , I turned my project around and realised that it didn't look as bad as I thought! I just needed to complete my head and fill in the details. I had a lot of fun to be honest! :)
